Overview
Tennis shoes are not just used for playing tennis. Many individuals prefer to wear tennis shoes during the summer months as they are not as heavy and don't require you to wear socks. Tennis shoes can, however, become dirty quite quickly and need a good cleaning. This article will tell you how you can get your tennis shoes looking like new.
Step 1
Wash tennis shoes in your washing machine with plain laundry detergent if they have no stains. To make it safe for your washing machine, you will need to place the tennis shoes inside a pillow case that contains two towels wrapped around it. This way your shoes get washed, but don't bang against the washing machine.
Step 2
Dry your shoes by placing them in front of a fan or leaving them outside on a spring, fall type day. Use a house fan if it is winter or summer as the weather may not be ideal to drying out your shoes.
Step 3
Bleach your tennis shoes if they are white and contain any stains. To do this you can run a Clorox bleach pen across the stains. You can then fill up your washer with water, one cap ful of laundry detergent, and a cup of bleach. Dry the same way you did in step 2.
Step 4
Add 2 cups of OxiClean to your washing machine along with your regular detergent. Add your colored tennis shoes that may contain stains on them. The OxiClean is totally safe to remove stains from colored clothing and shoes. Dry the same way you did in step 2.
Step 5
Sprinkle a spoonful of baking soda in your shoes in between cleanings. This will keep the odors at a minimum and will help keep the inside of the tennis shoe clean by absorbing any moisture, such as sweat.
Step 6
Use Kiwi Sport Wipe-off Instant Cleaner. This product only costs $4 and will keep any sport shoes, such as tennis shoes, clean. It also dries instantly so you can use it anywhere. You can keep it in your sports bag and use it right on the tennis court.
TIPS AND WARNINGS
- TIP : Keep your tennis shoes in a cool dry place when not in use.
- WARNING : Do not stick your tennis shoes in the dryer. They can shrink and the rubber can melt in the high heat.
