Hockey TipsOverview
The stick is a vital piece of equipment for every hockey player, and ensuring you have the right stick is the first step toward success on the ice. There are numerous factors to consider when choosing a stick. Follow these steps to determine what type of stick is right for you.
Step 1
Assess your needs as a hockey player. Will you be a defenseperson or a forward? Are you a beginner or an experienced player?
Step 2
Select your shaft type. Hockey stick shafts can be made of wood or more durable, composite materials. Wood is less expensive but less durable than pricier composite shafts.
Step 3
Examine the curve of the blade. A lesser curve allows for more control when passing and shooting and is the better choice for beginning players.
Step 4
Test the flex of the hockey stick's shaft. Defense players want a stick that's stiffer and heavier, while forwards and beginners will be more comfortable with lighter, more flexible sticks.
Step 5
Determine the appropriate length of the hockey stick. Longer sticks benefit defensive players, and shorter sticks allow forwards to have more control with the puck.
TIPS AND WARNINGS
- TIP : If you have trouble finding a stick that's the perfect length, buy one a little long and have it cut down.
