Football TipsOverview
Every year we see a new class of freshmen college football recruits heading out of high school into college to play. The key to getting this dream to come true for you and getting recruited by a college is more method than madness. Following some of these suggestions will heighten your chances of being recruited by a college to play football.
Step 1
Have a positive attitude. Being involved in your community through volunteer work or being a positive influence in the locker room as well as the classroom will show maturity. College recruiters look for players that have a positive attitude and stay out of trouble as strongly as they do for talent on the field. Your coach's relationship with you will be a major point of observance and can be a help or demerit depending on your standing.
Step 2
Stick out like a sore thumb. If a college does not know about your high school, then chances are you will not have a good chance of being recruited. If you have a choice in high schools to go to and you know one is more well-known, go to the more well-known high school. This will give you a better chance of being recognized. Urge local newscasters and newspapers to cover your school's games. Once again, publicity is the name of the game and half the battle is getting your name known.
Step 3
Put up major stats. One of the biggest mistakes you can make in trying to get recruited is allowing your coach to pull you out of a game if you have the choice. You will want to stay in the game as long as you can to produce the statistics that will get a college recruiters' attention. Without statistics to back up your athletic skills, you will be overlooked because of lack of evidence.
Step 4
Take part in extracurricular football camps. If you are able to afford to go to football camp during the summer for high school players, this is a great way to get recruited. Many times these camps are run by colleges and scouts will attend to assess the talent. This works especially well if you are unable to gain accolades for your team through the local media.
Step 5
Win football games. One of the biggest ways to get recruited by a college is to attend a school with a winning history and continue that history during your attendance. This is one of the biggest attractions to a college recruiter that there could be. A player who knows how to win will likely continue to strive to do so in the future.
TIPS AND WARNINGS
- TIP : The weaker the football league is for high school, the more inflated your statistics will seem to recruiters. You may produce lower statistics in a more competitive league, but if they are still good, they will speak volumes as to what type of player you are with suitable competition.
- WARNING : Do not overpressure yourself if recruits come to watch a game as they will be taking everything you do into account. Nerves can translate to a lower performance, so keep playing the way you have been playing and don't allow the excitement to get the best of you.
